What we work on
Four kinds of work, each priced in writing. The words in the margins are the ones you will see on the quote.
Furnace install and repair
Single-stage, two-stage and modulating gas furnaces. Replacement starts with a Manual J load calculation so the new furnace is sized to the house you have now, insulation and windows included.
Repairs we see most: failed hot-surface igniters, dirty flame sensors, tripped limit switches, cracked inducer housings and blocked condensate drains on high-efficiency units.
| AFUE | Share of fuel turned into heat in the house. |
|---|---|
| BTU/h | Heat output or input per hour, printed on the nameplate. |
| ECM | A variable-speed blower motor that ramps instead of slamming on. |
Heat pumps, ducted and ductless
Ducted heat pumps on existing ductwork, ductless mini-splits for rooms the ducts never reached, and dual-fuel pairings that keep a sound furnace as backup.
Every heat pump quote names the balance point: the outdoor temperature where the system needs help, and what provides it.
| HSPF2 | Heating efficiency rating for heat pumps, 2023 test procedure. |
|---|---|
| Balance point | Outdoor temperature where heat pump output equals the house's heat loss. |
| Defrost | The cycle that clears ice from the outdoor coil in cold, wet weather. |
Central air conditioning
Condensers and evaporator coils matched as a rated pair, line sets replaced when they are undersized or carry the wrong refrigerant, and condensate handled so it does not end up on the basement floor.
Repairs: capacitors, contactors, refrigerant leaks found and fixed before recharging, and frozen coils traced to their real cause.
| SEER2 | Cooling efficiency rating, 2023 test procedure. |
|---|---|
| Tonnage | Cooling capacity; one ton is 12,000 BTU/h. |
| Line set | The two copper lines between the outdoor unit and the indoor coil. |
Seasonal service
A furnace check before the first cold week and an air conditioning check before the first hot one. Filters, burners, flame sensor, safeties, static pressure, refrigerant pressures and the condensate path, written down so the next visit can compare.
Pricing and plan terms: owner supplies. We do not sell a plan we cannot describe on one page.
| Static pressure | Air resistance in the ductwork; high readings shorten blower life. |
|---|---|
| MERV | Filter rating; higher catches more and restricts more. |
